has the high school ever considered adding a creative writing class?

A.  Yes and the high school has a Creative Writing Club.

We need recycling bins on athletic fields! It’s better for the environment, these bottles can make the campus money and therefore the bins will pay for themselves (note that the water-refilling machines on water fountains were paid for by the proceeds of the school’s recycled bottles), and this will make our athletic fields appear and actually be cleaner, impressing our guests and opponents. Crazy that this still isn’t a thing!

A.  Recycling containers have been tried in the past as well as a carry-in/carry-out trial on our athletic fields. Unfortunately the recycling containers become mixed with trash which the recycling companies will not accept.  We will review options for recycling containers at the various concession areas and request the concession folks look after them and […]

What exactly does the school put on the final senior year transcripts that they send to colleges? Do they put the grades from each quarter or the year as a whole?

A. Final Transcripts are sent after the roll-over in July – Only final grades for each class and the credit earned is sent to colleges.

I forgot my lunch code where can I find out what it is

A. Contact Food Services at 881-0630.

I noticed an earlier question about the age of Shen. It seems that a number of towns got together to create a viable school district for because of their small size but close proximity. Has there been any discussion of splitting up the district? It’s huge and given the growth of the area, I can’t help but wonder if this a district of 10,000 is what was envisioned 67 years ago.

A. It is nearly impossible to split a school district. To our knowledge it has never been done in New York State. In fact, the state provides incentives for district’s to merge because it brings costs down. From what we know, the State Education Department and the legislature would have to be involved.  Then all of […]

what happens if you lost your student id?

A. Let them know at the main office.

Should teachers be allowed to have their children use building computers before and after school?

A. Yes.

Can I find out Shen policy on recess attire. My child is refusing to wear a jacket to school when it is cold in the morning with warmer temp predicted later in the day. My child’s recess aide makes them wear it during recess and not aloud to take it off. She tells them Shen’s rule is if your parent sent you to school with a jacket you need to wear it at recess. That’s all fine and good during the winter, but fall/spring it can be 30 at 7:20 and 50-60 at noon. I have asked in the school office and they say they don’t have that rule. If kids are hot running around then it’s ok to take off on the hotter days and the aide are told to use their judgement. My child’s aide seems to be a dictator and makes up her own rules, but nothing is done. So I will not be sending my child with a jacket and my child will be the last to complain about being cold. I just hope this doesn’t lead to retaliation from my child aide. I just really want to know if my child’s recess aide can dictate if the children can use their own judgement on wearing a jacket outside or not.

A. There is no district policy. However, the elementary handbook states that students must be dressed appropriately for recess: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zzHZ1IvdYWfFnXVXX19A3TsUDZICDzMYLFUWXlVGASQ/view

If I am 18, am I allowed to call myself in sick or for any excused absence?
