Why does our Superintendent receive a one year extension on his four year contract every year? Shouldn’t every position in the district face an end of contract evaluation?

A. Education law limits the superintendents contracts in the state of New York to a maximum of five (5) years at any given point. The Shenendehowa superintendent has had a five year renewable contract, meaning it is reviewed and approved annually by the Board of Education, for at least the last 10 years.

If a student has below a 65% overall average for the school year will they be held back?

A.  It depends how many credit the student earns.  Typically students should have earned at least 11 credits by end of grade 10 to be considered a junior next year.

When are the medals for >95 GPA handed out? When was the GPA looked at for the medal? Also, does gym count at all for the GPA for the medal- like if you were failing gym would you still be eligible?

A. The medals were handed out last week.  If students have not picked theirs up already, they may be picked up this week.  The medal recipients were selected after the 3rd marking period of their senior year.  PE is not counted, but a failing grade in PE would prevent a student from graduating.

What time are middle school students finished with their final exams on Tuesday June 20th? We have a younger sibling that has their moving up day ceremony the same day at 12:30.

A.  Staff members can submit helpdesk tickets requesting specific websites be blocked or unblocked.  Requests are evaluated and changes are made when appropriate.

Who chooses the winners for the “special” awards at high school west? Many people I know were nominated who are very involved and lots of things for the school but instead a person who has not so good grades and does little for the school wins?
