I’m very confused about the news piece on the M.O.V.E program that will be starting in September. Why now is this program starting? Where were these students before? Why did it say this is the first M.O.V.E program in the area when there has been one for years in Ballston Spa?

A.  At this time, we have a group of students who require similar programming that can best be met through a MOVE curriculum. The students were in various specialized classes within the district receiving individualized programs. We recognized that we had individual students who’s needs were similar enough to group together to form one classroom […]

Why are students forced to learn about current events? My social studies teacher tells all her classes to watch the news and see all the ISIS news/attacks and the Trump scandal. Not to mention she forced us all to watch the 1st Presidential Debate. I feel as an American citizen I have the right to see into, or stay out of politics. Politics actually causes a lot of stress in my home and controversy at school. Students are undoubtedly being more racist and sexist at school since the election, as compared to two years ago. American History is required to be taught, that I understand. But with currents events, I believe students should have a choice. I feel like it’s tearing down Shen. Thank you.

As someone who has been connected to Shenendehowa for decades, I want to reassure families and students that whether or not a person receives an award does not determine that person’s future success in life. For example, one graduate did not receive any awards when he graduated in 1973. He is now the CEO and President of General Electric Africa. Another Shen grad from the ’90’s, although in the top ten of his class, received no award. He is now a cardiologist. I am sure there are innumerable other examples. Be patient and encourage individuality.

We really appreciated Koda allowing kids to wear clothes lighter weight clothes to the 8th grade concert last week, because of the hot weather. As a mom though, there quite a few girls wearing really, really short dresses and skirts. I’m not one to be hyper-vigilant with these things, but the band/orchestra teachers need to let the girls and their families know that from the audience’s vantage point sitting below leaves them really exposed. Please, please pass this on.

This is in response to the person who wrote: “Why is the Shen pool at Gowana not open to the public during the summer. Taxpayer money is going into it’s upkeep while it sits unused for almost three months during the summer.” The pool does NOT sit unused for almost 3 months, a swim team pays to use it during the school year and the summer, and girls varsity starts in August
