How cold does it have to be to delay or cancel school?

A. Many factors go into the decision to close school. It is not simply based on how cold or how many inches of snow is expected. https://www.shenet.org/about-us/public-informationcommunications/emergency-closings-delays-and-early-dismissal/

why aren’t there paper towels in the bathrooms, the hand dryers don’t dry my hands.

A. Hand dryers are better for the environment and more cost effective.

The high school lunches in east are not filling at all especially for all the money i spend on this lunch that doesn’t fill me up im still starving.

A.  We follow strict instructions from New York State as to what we can serve and how much.  It is recommended that students take all 5 components (Grain, Meat/Meat Alternate, Fruit, Vegetable and Milk) to get a complete meal.

I wait so long in the freezing cold to wait for my bus.Expecting it to be warm when i get on its as cold as it is outside. The bus is freezing. Its ridiculous because we have to sit on the buses so long to wait to get off and all i do is shiver.

A.  Diesel-powered school buses are equipped to maintain an interior temp of at least 53 degrees, which our buses ususally do. The extreme temperature made it very difficult for the buses to warm up. We always encourage our students to dress warmly based on weather conditions.

My son’s replacement Chromebook was of inferior quality than his original Chromebook. Can you explain why this is? Cost cuts?

A.  Students are provided fully functional loaner devices while broken/missing Chromebooks are addressed.  Devices that cannot be repaired or are lost/stolen are replaced with the same model the student was originally assigned in the 1:1.

Can we request to un-do a “Blocked by the administrator?” I used to go on pinterest for images because the images on google were not safe, but now I have the risk of seeing something inappropriate on google. Thank you.

A. Only staff members can submit a request to remove content filters.

Is the pool open to the public?

A.  The community education program coordinates times in which people can sign up for classes in the pool.  Due to the extent that the pool is used for student programs and swim team events/programs, we do not have open swim.  For further information please visit our website at: https://www.shenet.org/about-us/shen-aquatics-center/

To take basically any of the technology related classes in high school do you have to take DDE first?

A. College Drawing and Design for Engineering  (DDE) is the initial course in the college level Project Lead the Way progression and is therefore a prerequisite for  College Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), College Principles of Engineering (POE), and Honors Automation and Robotics. Drawing and Design for Production (DDP) is an alternate prerequisite to DDE for Engineering […]

just a small thing, but at HSE, there is a yellow rope in the main lobby preventing students from walking directly towards the west wing, instead they must circle around the front desk go in that direction. It’s really not a big deal, but I was just wondering why it is there.

A. It’s a safety issue. It helps ensure that visitors are checked in at the front desk and we know where they are going when they arrive.

Shen issues many pink parking tickets in the student parking lot warning that the cars without parking permits will be towed. How many cars actually get towed? I’ve seen the same cars with pink citations over and over.

A.  We try not to tow any vehicles as it is inconvenient and costly for the person who has their vehicle towed. With that said, we will tow a vehicle if they continue to violate our rules and park without permission.
