What would happen if someone doesn’t attend summer school and they need to?
A. They will be rescheduled for a class if needed for graduation.
Can you redo the New York State test?
A. If you mean the gr. 3-8 testing, no. If you mean the Regents exams, yes.
As a concerned parent my child has told me the 8th Grade Social Studies final is going to be taken through edoctrina, and I have heard of the disaster that was the NYS testing and I feel this is going to cause a vast amount of trouble, and I don’t want my students to be forced to use this flawed system or have their tests delete. Can we change this?
A. Middle school students took final exams with a web-based software platform that is different than the one used for NYSED testing. Students have been successfully using this platform all year for tests and quizzes in many English, Social Studies, Science, and Math classes
If a grade is marked as absent in the student/parent portal, are those grades turned into a 0% at the end of the quarter/year? Or are they kept as excused?
A. Ask your teacher directly….this has to do with how they set up their grade book and grading procedures for that class.
When will sign ups be for Junior Citizenship passes?
A. Typically, they use the first 5 weeks of the school year to establish a baseline and then allow students to apply.
if you fail a LOTE class, will you have to go to summer school to make it up? 8th grade
A. No, you are only recommended for the 2-week summer review course if you fail the Checkpoint A exam on June 18.
Can the school establish a JROTC Program?
A. Any interest in starting a group should follow the proper channels for starting a new club. Please see an administrator for information on starting a new HS club.
Approximately how long is the high school graduation?
A. Approximately 2 1/2 hours.
My mother, who is a Shen graduate, and I were visiting the memorial garden in front of the high school the other day. It was brought to my attention that many of the students who had passed don’t have a memorial. Two of which are her best friend who passed in ninth and her fiance who passed in twelth. There was nobody in there before the late nineties, and something needs to be done, there are good students who deserve to be in there. I expect an answer, because this needs addressing more than other problems about air conditioning and Chromebooks. This is about plain respect for the passed.
