Bill Casey and James Trainor were selected by the Board of Education to serve in the two vacant seats left on the board after Rick Mincher and Mary Wiggins resigned due to personal reasons. Both Mr. Casey and Mr. Trainor will serve until the next general election in May. After reviewing letters of interest from 13 candidates, the board selected five to be interviewed at its public meeting on 9/24.
The Board of Education is made up of seven unsalaried citizens elected to serve a three-year term. The board's powers and duties are derived from the New York State Constitution, the laws of New York State and the rulings of the New York State Commissioner of Education. The Board of Education's main areas of responsibility are:
• Establish district policies.
• Develop an annual budget for public approval.
• Vote on the Superintendent's recommendations on personnel matters and contracts.
• Review courses of study and textbooks.
• Act as a communication link between residents and the Superintendent.
No person or group of persons acts in the
name of the board. All motions require a majority vote before the
Board can act. A board member is in an official capacity only
during an official Board meeting. The Board employs a
Superintendent who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of
the district and administration of Board policies. The

The Committee on Open Government is responsible for overseeing the Freedom of Information Law, the Open Meetings Law and the Personal Privacy Protection Law
•The Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) pertains to the public's right to gain access to government records.
•The Open Meetings Law (OML) concerns the public's right to attend meetings of public bodies.
•The Personal Privacy Protection Law (PPPL) pertains to personal information collected and maintained by state agencies.

Mary Blaauboer, of Clifton Park, is serving her second term on the school board. She is the former director of personnel at the College of Saint Rose. She has a bachelors degree in public administration with a minor in human resources management from Stonehill College in Massachusetts and additional coursework towards a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). She and her husband, Jim, have two children who attend Shenendehowa. Term exp. 6/30/14

Gary A. DiLallo, of Clifton Park, is serving a fifth term on the board. He is a retired school teacher who taught secondary social studies at Mechanicville City Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree from McNesse State University and a master’s degree in educational administration, sociology and psychology from Louisiana State University. He and his wife have three children who have graduated from Shenendehowa. Term exp. 6/30/16.
Janet Grey, of Clifton Park, is serving her fourth term on the Board. She is a stay-at-home mom who formerly worked as a human resource professional. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology and a minor in women's studies from SUNY Oswego. She also has post-graduate coursework in human resource management. She and her husband have two children, one attends Shenendehowa and one graduated from Shen. Term exp. 6/30/15.
Todd Gilbert, of Clifton Park, is serving his first term. He is employed at Time Warner Cable Business Class and has a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh in business management and an M.B.A. from the University of Dallas. He and his wife have two children attending Shen. Term exp. 6/30/16.
Robert Pressly, of Rexford, is serving his first term on the board. He is currently employed at Momentive Performance Materials and is retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He has a bachelor’s degree in Control Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife have two children who attend Shen. Term exp. 6/30/15
James Trainor, of Clifton Park, was selected by the board to serve in one of the two vacated seats. He is employed as an attorney/partner at Cutler, Trainor and Cutler LLP and a retired LTC from the US Army Reserve. He has a B.S. in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a M.S. in business administration from Boston University, and a J.D. from Fordham University of Law. He and his wife have four children who have graduated from Shenendehowa. Term exp. Next General Election.
