HIGH SCHOOL PROMS AND DANCES
Posted on May 13, 2011
Yes. The skirts can not be too short and the tops should fit
appropriately.

The administration is enforcing the dress code. If the dress is
a violation, we will work to correct it at the prom. If it can’t
be corrected, you may be sent home.

The prom is a school activity and therefore the dress code applies. Good
taste should be the guideline, recognizing that students do a great deal
of jumping and dancing at the prom. Let's keep things covered and
secured to avoid everyone's embarrassment.

Here is the link for the
Dance Guest Form . All guests of the prom from outside of
Shenendehowa High School are subject to the approval of the
administration. Contact your grade level associate principle.

Like all dances or extracurricular activities, the prom is a privilege
to attend, not a right. Students may be prohibited from attending due to
attendance, behavior or academic concerns.

What would it be based on? We have found that it does nothing to make
the prom more enjoyable for students other than the king and queen.

Please see the assistant principal or class
advisors for information on how to get a replacement.

No. CAPTAIN always ran the after prom party and they decided not to do
so any longer because of poor attendance.
Posted on September 16, 2009
No, at that point you are officially graduated. You can attend the prom
as a guest of a current student. That student must follow the proper
procedures and fill out the Dance Guest Form (see high school Web page).

There are many things other school districts
do that we don't and vice versa. The answer is that it has never been
done because, with 800 students going to the prom, it would be quite a
crowd control as well as a parking problem. However, if you are
interested in pursuing the idea, contact the high school principal.

The fund is set up for Shenendehowa students
only.

Yes. They must have ID to get in.

At the high school the Senate and National Honor Society, along with the
Class Councils plan dances with the administration. At the Gowana and
Koda middle schools they are sponsored by the Student Council. At Acadia
it is the PTA.

We will continue to utilize the strategies that we have in the past.
Students will be "patted" down, purses will be checked and chaperones
will continue to circulate and interact with all students throughout
the dance.
Posted on May 6, 2009
No, unless their is an extenuating
circumstance that has been approved by the administration.
Posted on May 6, 2009
Actually, both methods are used. The
"pat down" is to ensure students don't bring certain items to the
event. The school uses their "alcohol-sensor" to test students
suspected of using alcohol.

What is the district's
policy on same-sex couples in regards to prom/dance attendance?

It is unlawful to discriminate based on sexual
orientation so if a same-sex couple wanted to attend, it would be
allowed.
