Posted on September 2, 2011 In the HS Principal's newsletter, they have "Portal Updates" listed, then about a month later "Report Cards". What is a portal update? Isn't the portal updated on a daily basis?
It is but this update will take the place of interim reports.
Posted on January 13, 2011 Curious to know why the PTA is unable to use student lists from the Portal to contact families about PTA events, yet the school can use this information to promote "Elementary Night" at an upcoming basketball game through emails and automated phone calls. To limit the number of uses of the SIS system it is restricted for each individual school's business. So, for example, the high school PTA can not advertise an event through the SIS for an elementary school. That is why the basketball boosters could not use the elementary system to advertise a high school basketball game.
Posted on September 1, 2011 How do you see locker assignment for high school on the portal?
Parents can go to their parent portal account. Once you have selected your student, go to reports and click on schedule Q1-4 to bring up the pdf version. The locker number and combination can be found on the upper left hand side. If you just click on schedule, this information will not appear, you need to go to reports. Students will also be provided this information in homeroom on the first day of school.

There is not an iPhone specific application for the Student Information System. However, you can access and navigate the system using the web browser on your phone.
Posted on September 1, 2011 Why are parents and students being forced to use the portal to get classroom assignments. Is there another way to get their schedule prior to the start of school.

Posted on September 2, 2011 After looking at the Parent Portal under TRANSPORTATION....they should also list the LATE BUS route the students need to take in the event they have to stay after! From past experience, this can be a nightmare for some kids to figure out b/c even at the HS level they don't know the development they live in or the surrounding streets. In the big scheme of things, this can't be a daunting task for transportation to undertake.
Can't be done at this time. Students should check maps and late bus lists at main office or parents/students can call transportation office.

Posted on December 5, 2008 Can I fix any mistakes on the parent portal or do you have to go to the office to do that?
The portal reflects the most up to date information on a student or a parent in the system. If a grade or attendance mark is incorrect you need to contact the school (teacher, counselor or attendance office). If your address, phone number or email has changed you need to notify the school in writing and the change will be made at that time.

Posted on September 18, 2008 What is your user name for the student portal? When they gave us the information they only gave us seven numbers and told us we didn't need to memorize them because we would get a different user name.
Student's user names are their 9 digit ID numbers. This will not change. Your password is the only thing that will change once you log in.
Posted on February 25, 2009 Will there be an online applications for the parent portal? We should not have to fill out paper forms.
The application is online. However, you have to deliver it in person because it requires that you show id. This is done to safeguard the confidential nature of the information about a child on the portal. We must be sure that you are linked to your child and your child only. As such, a one page paper application is used. The portal account is active for as long as your child attends a Shen school and their is no annual renewal. In theory, you do it once and all of your children are covered until the last one in your family graduates.

Posted on May 4, 2010 I check my student's portal periodically, though not everyday. I like being able to see grades and look forward to the day every teacher used the portal to it's advantage. I have issue with the email section, however. I find it clumsy to scroll to the end of the page to find this information and often miss important information put here--including emails from teachers. Is there a way to forward these email so I can see them immediately? Thank you.

Posted on January 21, 2010 What is going on with the parent portal, several of us can't access the schedules for middle school? I am wondering because the quarter is almost up and I need to email a teacher about a grade and can't get their emails since I can't open the schedule on parent portal. Thanks!
In the past the live schedule needed to be turned off while the teachers complete the grading & averages for the quarterly report card. The schedule is the access point for the grade book, so, that is why the schedule is off. However, the district is now able to leave the schedule up while the grade book is closed.
Posted on March 18, 2010 Why is it that when I'm late to a class for a school-related reason it is marked as excused and not exempt? (for High School West) I look on the portal, and for some of the periods it is exempt and marked in green; however, the period that I'm marked tardy is marked excused when it should be exempt. This has happened multiple times. I think it should be corrected...
Posted on December 11, 2008 My son has math 4th period and almost every Friday they have a test. He has told me that students usually take a few minutes after the 4th period bell to finish up the test but he gets a pass from his teacher that he had an excuse to be late. So then why does on the parent portal does it say a "T" for tardy in attendance?
He is "officially" tardy for that class, but it is an "excused" tardy.
Posted on October 28, 2008 My son was marked absent on the parent portal for 2 consecutive days that hadn't even occurred yet in the week. Can you explain?
If it was an A in a green box, that means that he will be absent from class but still in school (i.e. field trip). Those are marked in advance because they are planned ahead of time.
Posted on October 28, 2008 On the Parent Portal my daughter was marked as absent on a day that she was on a middle school field trip. If the whole middle school team went on the field trip, why would they be marked as absent?
For field trips they are marked with an A (absent from class) but it is marked as exempt (green). It does not count as an absence from school.

Unless a student has an “attendance event”, such as an absence, a tardy, or an early release, there will be no indicator in attendance since they have “no mark on their record”.
Posted on January 5, 2010 Can you please help me understand something on the portal? Under the effort and conduct for the elementary report card I see 1's and 2's in some classes but nothing listed in others... What is the scale for this? I can't find that anyplace to know if this is good or bad.
The scale is listed on the bottom of the report card in the portal. If there is no grade for conduct and effort, then the classroom teacher did not enter it.
Posted on April 23, 2009 Why does the parent portal have to include the child's immunization records. I feel this is very personal information and should not be available for all eyes.
Posted on December 18, 2008 Why is our GPA not put on the portal? Also is there any chance for us to see our past report cards on the portal? Last, why aren't teachers being made to use the portal? Its very difficult to monitor grades when some teachers are not putting our grades up. I am not saying P.E. teachers but I think Math, Social Studies, Science, English, and Electives teachers should put up grades. Thanks
The report card sent home (it is a custom report card for Shen) four times a year has the GPA for the quarter on it. The report card viewable in the portal (the system default) is not able to display the GPA for the quarter. The district has been told that at some point in the future it may be able to display the custom report which will include the GPA for the current quarter. The portal is only able to be active for the current year, so that is why you are unable to see report cards from prior years. We have made a request to Infinite Campus for this type of feature to be included in future versions of the program.
Posted on December 18, 2008 How come the report cards on the parent portal for Middle & High School don't look like the report cards the children bring home? The overall average and if they made the honor roll are missing. One of my son's grades was changed on the report card after it was sent home, so now I don't know his new overall average and if he now qualifies for the honor roll.
The district has a customized report card for each level (elementary, middle and high school). At the present time the portal does not support the customized report cards which is why you see the information in a different format.

Posted on September 18, 2008 Why is my daughter’s AP score not included on the assessment page on the Portal, along with her SAT and ACT scores?
The SIS system is set up to accept those scores and the hope is to have them accessible at some time. However, at this point, AP scores are not being input into the system.

Yes. It will show the last login, number of logins for the past week and the past month.

Only parents and students have access to the portal. Teachers have access to the student information system but can only access information about students in their class.
