POOL
Posted on April 30, 2008
If "swimming" will
become a gym class once the pool opens, will this only be required of
the Middle School students? Or will this be rolled out to students in
High School? Also, what about Elementary School...and what would you
do about the 3 schools off campus?

Nothing has been decided at this point. During
the next several months, the district will begin to develop an
academic plan and community use plan for the pool.

If gym classes use the
pool, what are they going to do with wet clothes afterwards?
Students certainly do not have room in lockers for wet things.

Although the pool plan has yet to be
developed, in area schools with pools, students are asked to bring a
plastic bag to hold wet clothes. In some instances, plastic bags are
provided. Plus, each locker room will be equipped with a special dryer
for bathing suits that wrings the items to a damp state. More details
will be provided in pool plan.

Will students have gym classes with the pool?

Yes. Physical education classes will take place in the pool as well as
the gymnasiums.

Will there be open swim
times for the community to use the new pool? Will taxpayers have to
pay to use the pool for learn to swim and wellness programs (even
though they already paid for the pool through their taxes)?

At this point, the programs for the pool have
not yet been determined. Any fees charged would be used to offset the
overhead costs such as staffing for programs.

Construction on the new 8-lane stretch pool is
projected to be complete by May 2009. The pool will be open to community
use for learn-to-swim and wellness programs. A committee will be formed to
develop guidelines, processes and procedures for community use.

Shenendehowa is building an 8-lane stretch pool
attached to the Middle School Complex (across from the bus garage). It
will be used as a physical education space for students. It will be open
to community use for learn-to-swim and wellness activities. The
guidelines, processes and procedures for community use will be developed
prior to it opening in May 2009.
