Mr. ALLISON / HIGH SCHOOL EARTH SCIENCE

Homework

Name ______________________________

Our Changing Earth Project

You will have 3 days to research volcanoes, earthquakes and any other forces that change our earth.

You must answer 15 of the 24 questions. In addition, you may choose 2 EXTRA CREDIT worth 2 points each, for a total of 4 extra credit points. Extra credit questions will only be counted when the 15 project questions are complete.

The project is worth a total of 30 points

Sources: You must use books and encyclopedias for this project. Computers may be used for research on a limited basis. A full literature cited is required. Keep track of your resources and websites.

You may use the question sheet (attached) to keep notes on and keep track of sources. A rough draft is not required, but it is suggested.

WHAT TO HAND IN:

There are two ways of presenting your research:

Method #1 – Traditional – WORK ALONE ONLY if using this method

The answers must be typed on a separate paper. PRESENTATION COUNTS. A neat looking project is a good project. Points will be taken off for a sloppy or messy job. The answers must in complete sentences. The first sentence must be a topic sentence. Pictures should accompany some of your answers. Be careful not to plagiarize any information. Use you own words.

Each answer must be labeled with its number from the project handout. As followed:

    1. Q1… Answer
    2. Q3… Answer

Do not copy over the question. Doing so will result in a 2 point penalty. Everything must be run through a spell check.

Method #2 – Computer-based Presentation –

This method can be used if working alone or in groups of no more than 3 people.

The point of doing a computer based project is to be more visual. Make sure the pictures that you use have a credit showing the name of the website you got them. You do not have to list them on your works cited if you credit them in a small caption. You still have to fully answer the 15 questions as you would if you were using the traditional method. You may use PowerPoint, Moviemaker, or I Movie.

Make sure you clearly identify the question you are answering. Be as creative as you want to be. You may copy the question if it fits the design of your presentation. Do not answer more than one question per slide.

Your presentation should be put onto a CD and an outline page should be handed in as well. NOTE – If using I-Movie, you must burn onto a DVD that can played through a television.

CAUTION: Point deductions will be taken for groups that do not work together. Everyone in the group is responsible for knowing the information in the project. You are working together on each question and the presentation. Questions may be asked (by me) to any member of the group to verify this.

DUE DATES:

If using Method #1 (printed paper) –THE PROJECT IS DUE

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9th

For each day a project is late, 5 points will be deducted. No project will be accepted more than 2 days late. - (FRIDAY April 11th – for a max. score of 20/30)

For Method #2 (computer based presentation) THE PROJECT IS DUE Friday, April 11th

There are no late projects allowed for this method. TEST YOUR CD or DVD!!! If the media you hand in does not play or work right (errors, etc.), there will be a penalty.
