Workroom

Fourth grade has workroom every day during the lunch recess. If children have not finished their homework, or have behaved inappropriately in class, they receive a workroom. They also fill out an I statement that explains to their parent why they went to workroom that day. This is a yellow slip that must be signed by the parent. If children fail to get the slip signed and bring it back to school the next day, they receive another workroom. If a child receives three workrooms in one week, they are assigned to detention.

Sometimes children are sent to unrecorded workroom. This happens if a child needs extra help, has been absent and needs extra time to make up work, or needs to finish or make up a test. Unrecorded workroom does not count toward detention and does not require a yellow slip.

The goal of workroom is to help children become responsible for their work and behavior. It also helps children to keep up with their work, and not become overwhelmed with unfinished back work. Of course, if there are extenuating circumstances at home that prevent a child from doing their homework on a particular night, parents should send a note to school and children will not be assigned to workroom that day.
