Over the next several weeks, students across Shenendehowa will be taking summative assessments in most of their classes. These assessments will help teachers measure how well students acquired the most important content and skills from their courses. As a district, we will also be able to use the data to measure the effectiveness of our academic programs; ensuring students are prepared for the next level of rigorous coursework, aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards. Most of these assessments have been designed to fit in one class period. Teachers will provide more specifics about the content and format of each assessment. Best wishes to our students on the successful completion of the academic year. Please click here to access the 2013 Middle School Final Exam Schedule.

In November, children's acting troupe "Story Pirates" traveled from Manhattan to Gowana to entertain our sixth graders. Using a unique brand of improvisational storytelling, Story Pirates based their comedy-musical sketches on stories written only by students. They even created an impromptu story written by our own sixth graders! It's always wonderful when engaging entertainment can be tied into satisfying Common Core goals for writing, listening and speaking!
