The Middle School Mathcounts Club participated in the annual regional Mathcounts Competition at the GE Research Center in Niskayuna. The club is coached by middle school teacher Jennifer Sprague and high school students Phillip Sun and Jerry Qu. Gowana was represented by Shashank Patil, Fahad Ijaz, Ian Murray and Maximilian Trauring. Congratulations to all!!!
Mr. Vinciguerra, a parent and also the Publisher of several Hudson area newspapers, talks to students on Gowana Team 6-2 about newspaper production and publishing. Through interdisciplinary studies, students will be working on creating their own newspapers, based on Ancient Egyptian life and times.
FACS teachers Jen Nicholls and Claudia Sayers as well as middle school student in Family and Consumer Sciences participated in the “Shenendehowa Quilt Project.” This is a community event that is held annually and completes quilts for various local and national organizations.
On December 10th, eighth grader Olivia Klingbeil won Gowana's Spelling Bee. She will compete against other Capital Area winners at the Regional Spelling Bee at Proctors on February 17th. We wish her the best of luck!
As a culminating presentation on Propaganda in the Media, Dr. Brian McDonald presented a slideshow to all sixth-grade Critical Inquiry students on December 12th.

families this year.
Holocaust survivor and author Johanna Reiss gave presentations to all sixth grader who had read her book, The Upstairs Room. Ms. Reiss, now 81, hid from the Nazis for three years from age 10 -13. Shown on the screen are her rescuers, Johan, Dientje, and Opoe Oosterveld. All three were inducted into the Yad Vashem as heroes in 2004. Ms. Reiss signed a book for every one of the sixth grade students. Many thanks to the PTA at the Middle School.

The Gowana Community Club sponsored The Pink Hair for Hope Team raising $1,280.00 for breast cancer research by providing pink hair extensions to Gowana students. Amazing Job Gowana!!!
Gowana’s School Counselors welcome all new students to the district with a special luncheon.
Auditions for the Middle School musical, “Disney’s Camp Rock” will be held on Nov. 4, 5 & 6, in Room 915. Students need to only attend 1 audition date. Music will be supplied at the audition. Audition forms are available outside Room 915.
Team 6-2 at Gowana had a great team building field trip to Ellm's farm. 
Gowana team 6-1 students have their favorite independent reading books in hand for a lesson on identifying genres.
Students on Team 6-2 in Gowana enjoyed learning about books that others have read, during their "Living Book Fair."
Gowana’s Critical Inquiry students engaged in a lively discussion around the subject of homework during their weekly Socratic Seminar.

Prey on October 8, 10, and 15.

On October 1st, the Middle School had its first meeting of the Art Club with Mr. Green and Mrs. Wheeler. 127 students came to this wonderful after school activity!
