Koda Middle School building

Koda is the newest of three middle schools located on the main campus. It opened in 1999. The three middle schools buildings are attached and share core areas such as gym, libraries, etc., however, they function as separate schools.

The Middle School Mathcounts Club participated in the annual regional Mathcounts Competition at the GE Research Center in Niskayuna. The club is coached by middle school teacher Jennifer Sprague and high school students Phillip Sun and Jerry Qu. Koda was represented by Seonwoo Kim, Atharv Gawde, Bhrugu Patel, Matthew Vigilante, Mihir Chakravarthi, Chae-won Hwang, Jonathan Indajang and Taeyeon Kim. Seonwoo Kim placed in 4th out of over 100 students and will represent the Capital Region in the upcoming state competition at RPI in March. The Koda team of Seonwoo Kim, Bhrugu Patel, Matthew Vigilante and Atharv Gawde finished in 4th place overall in the team competition. Representing Acadia was Stanley Liu, Shrivali Banerjee, Cathy Shi and Jeffrey Qu. Gowana was represented by Shashank Patil, Fahad Ijaz, Ian Murray and Maximilian Trauring. Congratulations to all!!!

FACS teachers Jen Nicholls and Claudia Sayers as well as middle school student in Family and Consumer Sciences participated in the “Shenendehowa Quilt Project.” This is a community eMS Quiltsvent that is held annually and completes quilts for various local and national organizations.

Posted 12/5/13Holocaust Survivor Presentation

Holocaust survivor and author Johanna Reiss gave presentations to all sixth grader who had read her book, The Upstairs Room. Ms. Reiss, now 81, hid from the Nazis for three years from age 10 -13. Shown on the screen are her rescuers, Johan, Dientje, and Opoe Oosterveld. All three were inducted into the Yad Vashem as heroes in 2004. Ms. Reiss signed a book for every one of the sixth grade students. Many thanks to the PTA at the Middle School.
