Take Home Folders:

A backpack needs to come to school with your child every single day. Your child has a very important "Take Home Folder". There will be a "Go Home" side, and a "To School" side of the folder. We will send important notices and notes home to you in this folder on the "Go Home" side. Please check your child’s folder each night. At times, there may be forms that need to be completed. Please place the completed forms back in the "Take Home Folder" and have your child return it to school the next morning.

Absences:

Whenever your child is absent the district requires that an "excuse note" be sent in the next day. If your child is ill, you will need to notify Shatekon. You can do this in one of three ways: You can call the attendance office at 881-0580, or when your child returns to school, you may send a signed written excuse for their absence. You can also e-mail us an excuse (reason for your child’s absence from school) and we will forward it to the attendance clerk for your child’s records.

Snack:

We will have a quick snack break at 9am and 1pm. Please send in a small nutritious snack for your child each day. Please do not send candy. As of now, we have no known nut allergies in our classrooms.

Birthday Treats:

Feel free to send in birthday treats to celebrate your child’s big day! Something easy to pass out in the classroom works the best; like cupcakes, cookies, doughnut holes or brownies. We will celebrate during our snack time. If your child's birthday is on a Saturday, we will celebrate on Friday. If your child's birthday is on Sunday, we will celebrate on Monday. Summer birthdays will be celebrated towards the end of our school year, in June.

Notes:

Please send in a note any time your child is to be picked up, is not riding his/her usual bus, or is not getting off at his/her usual bus stop. If we do not receive a signed note, your child will have to go home on his/her regular bus and get off at their usual bus stop.

Volunteers:

At Open House night, we will have a sign-up sheet for parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering in our classroom, please sign-up at Open House or drop us a note and we’ll pencil you in. There will be additional times throughout the year that parent volunteers will be very helpful, too. We will be sure to provide updates as other times come up.

Book Clubs:

Periodically we will send home book orders. Often they offer good deals on interesting books. Please do not feel obligated to order. *Checks should be made out to each individual club. (i.e. Scholastic Book Club) Please do not send in cash for book orders. If you would ever like to order books as a birthday or Christmas gift, just let me know, and I’ll get the books to you without your child knowing.

Class List:

We plan to send home a list of the children in our classes, together with phone numbers and addresses, at the beginning of each school year. Please let us know if you do not want to be included on this list.

The reason for sending home this list is so that birthday invitations and play dates can be arranged outside of school. Please do not send party invitations to school. They are easily lost and very distracting. Thank you for your understanding.

Homework Packets:

Starting in October, the students will be completing homework packets. Please check your child's Take Home Folder on Mondays for the latest homework packet. Your child will have the week to complete the packet. The completed homework packet should be returned to school on Fridays.
