AUTHOR VISITS

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Skano PTA/Cultural Arts Committee for providing us with the opportunity to learn from these great authors and illustrators.

Alexandra Siy

Ms. Siy visited Skano on May 5, 2005.  In addition to seeing some great photos of astronauts and the moon, we learned that an author becomes an expert on something before they write a book about that subject.  You can learn more about Ms. Siy by visiting her website.

Charles R. Smith, Jr.

Mr. Smith visited Skano on January 13th, 2005.  If you'd like to learn more about this photographer/poet/author, check out his website: Charles R. Smith, Jr.

James Bruchac

Mr. Bruchac visited Skano on November 11, 2004.  He shared fun animal legends with the primary students, and scary survival stories with the intermediate students.  The PM Kindergarteners heard Mr. Bruchac tell stories in the library.  Everyone enjoyed looking at the casts of animal tracks that had he brought with him.  We were all thrilled to get our books signed by Mr. Bruchac.  To learn more about this local author, visit his website.

Gail Gibbons

We were very lucky to have Gail Gibbons visit our school on March 3, 2004.  She showed us slides of how a book is made.  We loved it when she drew "Happy Reading" pictures for us.  Learn more about this nonfiction author at her official website.

Steven Kellogg

On October 1, 2002, author/illustrator Steven Kellogg visited Skano in order to launch the Dolphin Readers Program.  He visited the A.M. and P.M. Kindergarteners in their classrooms, and addressed the 1st through 5th graders in a school-wide assembly.  While he spoke, he drew pictures of some of our favorite characters...
You can learn more about Mr. Kellogg at his web site.
