About Beginning Band

Our Beginning Band Program offers fifth grade students the opportunity to develop musicianship through instruction on a wind or percussion instrument. Each student will attend a weekly small group lesson (starting in September) and a weekly Full Band rehearsal (starting in January). In the spring, students in the Beginning Band have the exciting opportunity to participate in a Spring Concert.

How will my child benefit from the Beginning Band Program?

· Our program is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop musicianship with greater depth, discipline, independence, and understanding.

· Our program allows the learner to directly participate in making music, including musical expression, perception, and creativity, through performance on instruments.

· Our program continues the development of essential skills learned in the general music curriculum.

· Our program fosters the skills necessary to work with others. Aside from their own personal growth on their instrument each student will be responsible for the development of the full band, a team approach and concept.

· Our program recognizes and encourages important life skills, such as perseverance, dedication, and self discipline.

· Our program further develops and applies skills from other academic areas including math, ELA, science, and social studies.
