Our curriculum is based on the New York State Standards and the District's Essential Contents and Competencies.
Language Arts is divided into several components, including, but not limited to: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Spelling, and Grammar.
We will be utilizing the "The Glencoe" series in conjunction with outside resources. "The Writing Process" will be a major focus throughout the year and will be integrated throughout the core classes. Within the writing process many types of writing will be addressed including:
| Poetry | |
| Narrative | |
| Descriptive | |
| Expository | |
| Persuasive | |
| Letter Writing | |
| Performance Task Project | |
| Research | |
| Essay |
Evaluation: There will be spelling, vocabulary, homonym, and grammar quizzes announced weekly. Occasionally there will be homework, which will be important to your students' grades. Folders and binders will be checked periodically. Grading will be based on a point system which students can keep track of in their binder.
*Portfolio writing samples will be kept throughout the year (but grading sheets will be sent home with students).
**The Language Arts program within the MN classroom follows that of the 6th grade curriculum; however, I work hard on individualizing the program so that it meets the needs of each student to help them progress.
