Alumni Information
The
Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars, not-for-profit, volunteer
organization, would like to invite each class to offer a $500
scholarship in its name to a qualified senior in the Shenendehowa
School District.
This is a way to show support and encouragement
to a present senior who is facing the high cost of a college
education next year. DFS has raised and awarded $120,550 to 194
seniors since its beginning in 2001. Please Google Shenendehowa
Dollars for Scholars to read the process of awarding scholarships,
the names of past recipients, Memorial Scholarships, and much more
about the organization. The organization desperately needs your
support to offer scholarships to the many seniors applying to DFS!
If your class would like to pool your resources to offer a partial
or full $500 or $1000 scholarship, please contact Ed Hughes, Vice
President, at etph28@aol.com. Generosity is Not Forgotten by Those
Who Are Its Recipients.
The Shenendehowa Educational Foundation was
established a couple of years ago to address the needs of the
school district that could not be met within the limits of the
traditional annual school budget or that might exceed what is
allowed by the bureaucracy at the State Education Department.
The
goal is to serve and enhance the educational mission of the school
district which includes support of the Plainsmen’s athletic teams.
At the same time, it also encourages and supports activities on
the academic side of the house, whether it be endeavors in math,
science, music or art. Essentially it strives to do the kinds of
things that enriches the lives of students, school and community.
The foundation has decided as an initial project to reconstruct
the Shenendehowa Carillon in the form of a bell tower to be built
opposite the main entrance to the High School. The old carillon
bells are currently being refurbished and the bell tower is being
constructed in Cincinnati, Ohio, with delivery scheduled for May
of this year. The goal is not only to preserve this important part
of the community’s heritage, but to also make a statement about
the mission of the Foundation. Any assistance that alumni could
provide would be most appreciated. Any questions or offers to help
can be directed to Kevin Dailey, class or 1967 at
kdailey@nycap.rr.com.
