Drug Abuse Resistance Education
DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. The program in the Shenendehowa Central School District is sponsored by the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff James D. Bowen, and Deputy Rodney Gwiazdowski. Arongen's DARE program begins in February. We finish the program with a meaningful and educational graduation ceremony in June. The DARE program helps students to make informed decisions and to believe in themselves. It teaches them the gate-way drugs and how to say no to them. The DARE curriculum focuses on the following topics:
Drug use and misuse
Consequences of behavior
Violence identification & strategies to manage conflict
Resisting peer pressure
Building self - esteem
Assertive Training
Managing stress without drugs and violence
Media images of drug use and violence
Role Models
Support Systems
