How to be a Scientist

 Using the Scientific Process

Throughout this unit we will be learning the steps in the Scientific Process.  We will be applying what we've learned through several hands on experiments.

The goals for this unit are that students will:

• Participate in science experiments that normally have reproducible results that work in the same way in different places.

• Know that the same scientific investigation often gives slightly different results when it is carried out by a different persons or at a different times or places; however, if the results of repeated experiments are very different, something must be wrong with the design of the investigations.

• Use tools like thermometers, magnifiers, metric rulers, and balances to add to information.

• Know that the scientific investigations involve asking and answering questions and comparing the answers to what scientists already know about the world.

• Plan and conduct investigations using the scientific method.

• Use equipment and tools to gather scientific data.

• Know that scientistis make the results of their investigation public.

• Work as a team to discover and share findings.

• Design a solution to a problem that may have constraints, such as cost, material, time, space and safety.

• Implement proposed solutions using sitable tool, techniques, and quantitative measurements where appropriate.
