For the Week of January 5th-January 9th

Happy New Year! Hopefully it was peaceful and restful.

Please encourage your child to dress appropriately for the weather.  I encourage them to wear hats, coats, and mittens at recess. Whatever they wear to school, I tell them they need to wear at recess time as well.

Social Studies- This week we will begin Chapter 5 "People of the Northeast"  The class did a beautiful job on the Chapter 4 test.  Please be sure to look it over with your child.  You can continue to study all the states and capitals using the links below.

50 States and Capitals Song

States and Capitals Game

Science-. This week we will be learning about the new food pyramid. I hope you are looking forward to learning about the importance of health/nutrition and exercise in your life. I invite you to look up my science webpage for more information about what we will be learning.

Language Arts-    Theme 3 "A Changing Planet" Week 3

Spelling- Troublesome Words and Phrases- Pretest Monday and Test on Friday

English- Subject and Object Pronouns. Quiz Friday

Reading- "Oceans" Read Tuesday at home.  We will listen and discuss the story on Wednesday and immediately have a selection test.

Writing- This week we will start learning about essay writing. We'll begin by carefully observing the world around us and collecting ideas in our writer's notebook. Then we will record our thoughts about what we are observing.  Look for a homework sheet called "Collecting Observations and Thoughts About Them."  Your child will need to write for 20 minutes each night this week.

Math- Please encourage your child to work neatly and carefully on all homework assignments. This week we will continue Chapter 12. "Dividing by Two Digit Divisors"

I have continued to notice that some students do not have automatic recall of their math facts.  Please practice multiplication and division facts at home. A great website is www.Aplusmath.com
