Social Studies

In fourth grade students study New York State.  Students will learn about the geography of the state as well its history.  During the year we will learn about the earliest inhabitants, Native Americans, explorers, early European settlers, the American Revolution, and the development of our modern state.  The students will be encouraged to think critically about each topic.  Document based questions (DBQ's) will be used to prepare students to use research to develop written responses on important topics.

A state assessment in social studies is conducted in the fall of fifth grade.
