High Frequency Words: review from Kindergarten (these are the words that you child needs to learn to read "on sight"-no sounding out. There are 3 lists. Please help them practice List 1, if they do not know these words. New words will be presented each week and placed on our Word Wall in class)
Spelling: No test yet... We are working on readiness skills;
--beginning to build word families.
We are working on "Writing Readiness". This week we will talking about who authors are and why they write. We will discover that WE can become authors!
**Each week (approximately) we will be covering one chapter in math. At the beginning of each chapter a "School Home Connection" Letter will come home with your child's first work describing what the chapter is all about. Please make sure you check it out. It will also give you an idea of an activity you can do together at home.

We are discovering that we belong to a small community-a school family/team. We are creating the important rules that we need so that each of us can be successful on our journey to second grade.
Character Development is a big part of this theme and will continue to be each day of our school lives together.

Please remember:
* that students are to be dropped off to school no earlier than 7:50 and that
they are to be dropped off at the designated drop off area
*that it is strongly recommended that all students take the bus to and from school
* to send in September's snack for all of us to share. As explained in my first letter sent home in August, each family sends in snack (enough for 20+ students) each month. Please keep us healthy and safe by sending in snacks listed only.
*to send in 3 family photos for our school family album. They will be returned to you in June.
