Harcourt Social Studies Program

Our program includes:
CHANGE:       
    * Families and communities change over time.
    * There are urban, suburban, and rural communities.
GEOGRAPHY:
    * Locate communities and physical features on maps.
    * Communities may differ from place to place.
    * Communities are influenced by geographic and environmental factors.
ECONOMICS:
    * People have needs and wants.
    * People are producers and consumers of goods and services.
    * Communities provide facilities and services to help meet the needs and wants of
            the people who live there.
    * Taxes are money collected by a community.
GOVERNMENT:
    * Communities develop rule and laws to govern and protect their community.
    * Leaders can be elected or appointed.
    * Citizens can participate in solving a communities problems.
    * The United States has many patriotic symbols.
CULTURE:
    * People around the world celebrate various holidays and traditions.
    * Cultures around the world have a variety of customs similar and different than
            our own.
