Updates for Students in Mrs. DeGennaro's Class: (For the week of 2/13 - 2/17)

The class is learning about heat and change with Mr. Grignon.

The heat and change unit test will be given on Wednesday, 2/29 (the Wednesday after break).  Please use the study guide that will be sent home on Wednesday, 2/15 to help your child prepare for this test at home.

Updates for Students in Mrs. Potter's Class: (For the week of 2/13 - 2/17)

The class is learning about the scientific process with Mrs. Renzi.

The students are working on typing everything for their display boards this week and creating graphs to share their results.  They will begin assembling their display boards.

5th Grade Science Curriculum:

* The fifth grade program consists of the following units: Health & Nutrition, Heat & Change, Light, Rocks & Minerals, and the Scientific Method & Performance Task.

* At the beginning of the year, each teacher will begin his/her particular unit in science with his/her homeroom class. At the conclusion of the unit, the homeroom class will then move to the next teacher to begin a new science unit.

* Below are the science units taught by each of the fifth grade teachers:

   Mrs. DeGennaro - Health & Nutrition

   Mr. Grignon - Heat & Change

   Mrs. Morrow - Light

   Mrs. Potter - Rocks & Minerals

   Mrs. Renzi - Scientific Method & Performance Task

* Science classes will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

 

Strategies to Be Successful in Science:

* EVERY night, even if it's not assigned as homework, read through and study your notes and handouts

* When there is a quiz or test announced, study a little bit each night (do not wait until the night before to study!)

* Pay attention in class, participate, and ask questions if you have them!
