4th Grade Special Education Services
15:1 Reading/Math
This service is provided for students who are significantly below grade level in either reading or math. The student receives instruction outside of the regular education classroom usually at the same time as the subject is being taught to the other children in the general education classroom. There can be a maximum of 15 students in the group. This is an alternate curriculum. The special education teacher is providing the instruction and is responsible for the grading.
Integrated Co-Taught
This service is provided to students within the general education classroom setting. This service can be delivered in any academic area in which the student needs support. Instructional delivery is differentiated to meet the student's needs. Students are given the same classroom assessments as their regular education peers. Grading is the responsibility of both the general and special education teachers.
Consultant Support
This is the least restrictive of all special education services. It takes place in the classroom for a minimum of 2 hours per week. The special education teacher will go into the classroom. During this time, the role of the special education teacher is to do such things as make sure the child is able to take notes, or help the child with writing assignments, or make sure the child understands what is being taught. Typically the regular education teacher leads the lesson. Students with this service are not pulled out of the classroom. Grading is the responsibility of the general education teacher.
