4th Grade Special Education Services

15:1 Reading/Math

This service is provided for students who are significantly below grade level in either reading or math. The student receives instruction outside of the regular education classroom usually at the same time as the subject is being taught to the other children in the classroom. There can be a maximum of 15 students in the group. This is an alternate curriculum.  The special education teacher is providing the instruction and is responsible for the grading.

Resource Support

This service is provided to students who need extra support to keep up with the classroom curriculum. This support takes place outside of the regular education classroom for a minimum of 3 hours per week and does not exceed 6 children in the group. During this time, reteaching of curriculum takes place. This is not typically a time where homework is worked on, although, at times long range projects and assignments will be discussed. This is not a special class and the special education teacher is not responsible for grading.

Consultant Support

This is the least restrictive of all special education services. It takes place in the classroom for a minimum of 2 hours per week. The special education teacher will go into the classroom. During this time, the role of the special education teacher is to do such things as make sure the child is able to take notes, or help the child with writing assignments, or make sure the child understands what is being taught. Typically the regular education teacher leads the lesson. Students with this service are not pulled out of the classroom.
