BETAC stands for Bilingual Education Technical Assistance Center. This is a user-friendly site concerning ESL and Bilingual Education that has a useful FAQ section. It also has contact information for their very helpful staff.
New York State Bilingual & ESL Network is part of the NYS Department of Education site and has in-depth information on state standards, assessments, and guidance on teaching LEP students.
Bilingual Special Education Resources Network provides staff development, technical assistance and tuition assistance for teachers working with children and students with disabilities who speak a language other than English in grade levels from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
New York State TESOL is a non-profit group of professionals concerned with the education of English language learners at all levels of public and private education in New York State. Their website covers a variety of topics including classroom practices, research, program and curriculum development, funding, and legislation.
Harcourt's Moving into English page provides access to grade by grade ESL practice exercises from the textbook company that provides Shenendehowa's ELA reading series.
Within the site bridges4kids.org, there is a section on ELL/ESL where you’ll find a wealth of information on LEP students in your classroom. One of the best links from this site is Help! They Don't Speak English Starter Kit for Primary Teachers, which will help you understand what it means to be a LEP student in a mainstream classroom, how you can help these children succeed, and what issues there might be during your time together; bridges4kids.org is an excellent site on students, teachers and the community as a whole.
