High School West students (Left to Right: Deanna Osborn, Katie Jeter, Bani Sarang, Katie Dietz and National Geologic Representative) showed their RESPECT for our environment by celebrating "Earth Science Week" in fall. Students participated in The American Geological Institute's essay and photo contests.  Photo entries focused on "People Discovering Earth's Treasures".  "Earth Science in My Community" was the subject for essay submissions. 

CARING Shen students participated in fundraising events sponsored by Senate and National Honor members to benefit CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services.  Through the "Holiday Match" program and  volleyball tournament, Senate raised $8790.75.  NHS donated $750 raised by sponsoring its annual "SnoBall"

16 Orchestra students represented Shenendehowa HS in the recent Saratoga-Warren County Orchestra Festival in South Glens Falls, February 1 and 2.  Congratulations to Christine Dombroski, Taryn Wilson, Lauren Ottaviano, Emma Huneck, Sonya Langan, Kate Jameson, Annemarie Gundel, Kerry McDermott, Amy Bouchard, Blaise Barra, Joseph Langan, John Marshall, Mackenzie Clements, Christina Catanzaro, Chelsea Davis and Inge Chen.

Senior Tim Kineke and teachers, Donna Lynch, Mike Campion and Karen Bonventre were recently recognized by the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1498 representative Howard Steggs.

Tim was given "The Voice of Democracy" award for his essay on "My Role in Honoring American's  Veterans".  This the VFW's National Scholarship Program and Tim is eligible for the next level of competition.

Ms. Lynch, Mr. Campion and Ms. Bonventre were awarded the "National Citizenship Education Teacher Post Recognition Award" for their work in the classroom.

Tri-M Officers planned an evening of music, Nov. 3rd, featuring the folk songs of Dan Berggren.  Dan invited string players, Maximillian Lombardo, Alicia Caticha, Sara Gravelle, Kristen Swift and Laura Duclos, flutist, Erica Nirsberger and Will Boyajian playing harmonica to play with him for several songs.

In addition to the musicians, Dan invited teacher, Heather Baird and several HS choral students to sing with him.

Proceeds benefit the Catie Hoch Foundation, which assists families of children in treatment for cancer.

Time to Shine

HSW kicked-off the 4th Annual "Time to Shine" program with a multi-media presentation titled "Behind the Faces".  

Beginning November 5 and continuing through December, students will be identified as exhibiting any  of the "Character Words of the Month".  All identified students will be recognized with a Bagel Breakfast and raffle prizes weekly.

The Fall Awards Assembly will be held at the conclusion of the Fall semester and all "Shining Students" will be recognized for exhibiting their good character.

"Time to Shine" is repeated in the Spring semester.

The mission of this program is to help all students develop good character beyond our school walls.

High School student Ebryonna M. Wiggins has been recognized as a promising Black American high school student.  Ebryonna is one of about 3,000 students nationwide who has earned this recognition.

Twelve Shenendehowa students have been named Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program.  A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation will be presented to these outstanding seniors. They will also be recognized at the annual honors night program in May and their achievement will be highlighted in the academic showcase at High School East.
