Best Buddies

The local chapter is associated with an international non-profit organization.  The group pairs students with mental retardation in one-to-one friendships with their non-disabled peers.  The goal is to establish foundations for genuine friendships, thus enriching the lives of all participants.  Membership is open to all 9th through 12th grade students.  The club will meet monthly

Free the Children

We are a club that raises funds to build a school for children in Sierra Leone, a country torn apart by social injustice and internal strife.  We will be supporting this school in future years, through continued fund raising efforts.  We are also concerned with raising overall social awareness of children’s issues throughout the world.

Habitat for Humanity
Mr. Young (West)
Assists and supports local efforts of the National Habitat for Humanity.  This club performs four main functions:  building, fund-raising, educating and advocating.  All members will attend monthly meetings, work on a home construction project, support the ongoing local chapter and learn design/building techniques for residential construction.

Organized to promote pride and service to school and community, students participate in activities such as Open House guides, Senior Citizen dinner, Toys for Tots, walkathons and fund raisers.

Leo Club

LEO Club is a division of the Lions Club dedicated to assisting the blind.  The acronym LEO stands for Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity.  The main goal of the club is to provide services to the Shenendehowa community.  Students meet the first and third Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Mentoring Program

Goal is to improve school performance and/or social interactions.   This program pairs a high school student with a 6th grader on a weekly basis.

Music Honor Society  – TRI M      
Mrs. Mars (East)
The chief aims of the Tri-M Music Honor Society are to foster greater interest in the overall music program as well as to provide more opportunities for personal musical growth and expression.  Students are selected for membership into the society on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, cooperation, leadership and service to this school and community.

National Honor Society 
Mrs. Strait and Mrs. Lynch (East)
This organization is open to seniors who are selected at the end of their junior year based on their average (90 or higher), character and leadership in classes and activities.  The students volunteer as peer tutors, assist selling tickets at games and organize a social event in the winter.

Student Care for Kids
Mrs. Peterson (West)
It is a group that helps raise money for Albany Medical Children’s Hospital.  Its mission is to educate and enrich the lives of our students by encouraging them to become involved in philanthropy at an early age and implementing creative fundraising activities.  Students Care for Kids participants can directly enhance the lives of our regions patients.
