Okte PTA Parents As Reading Partners (PARP)

What is PARP?

The NYS PTA designed PARP as a program to foster the love of reading in children by asking parents to set aside fifteen minutes daily to read to their children. Families are asked to log their time daily. Children then bring their commitment sheet back to school on a weekly basis and their class will get credit for their participation.

When does PARP start?

PARP is a three week program starting on January 28, 2008 and running through February 15, 2008.

Is this a mandatory requirement?

No, however, the PARP program asks parents to encourage their children to read, showing that reading can be fun and informative. The daily interactions shared through PARP can only serve as a means to strengthen family unity.
