Native American Legends

After reading a variety of legends, fifth grade students decided to write their own. After writing and editing an original legend with a partner, students created a PowerPoint slide with text and graphics to visually display the legend. Then they added their own voice narration. After all legends were completed, the slides were combined to form a class slideshow.

Biography Web

Third grade students used speaking, listening, writing and technology skills for this project. Each student interviewed a classmate using the worksheet. Then they typed the information into text boxes on the Publisher template. Finally, they inserted a picture of the student they interviewed. The pictures were put into a folder on the student G drive and were presized to a 2" height. This project could easily be adapted for other grades or topics.

The Ghost of Fossil Glen

After reading The Ghost of Fossil Glen by Cynthia DeFelice, fifth graders summarized five sections of the book, typed their summaries in Word and then used Microsoft Publisher to format the summaries into their own unique 8-page booklet, complete with cover art and a dedication page. This project can be easily modified for any age level/reading ability.

Choose Your Own Adventure:

Creative writing takes on a whole new flavor when students use PowerPoint as a writing tool when creating “Choose Your Own Adventure” stories. Once the story is written, divergent plot lines can be explored through the use of hyper-linked buttons.
