Spiders!:
|
Here are two different ideas for helping students reinforce their understanding of spiders (can be adapted for plants, animals or other living things). 1. Label the parts of a spider using KidPix software. Students use the computer as a tool to practice labeling. They also practice click-drag-drop skills while moving existing labels to the correct locations on the spider image. Students create a new text box to type their name. |

2. Kidspiration software makes it easy to create a concept map describing a spider's physical characteristics and habitat. The links below show the work of two 2nd grade students. |

Solar System Graph:
|
Use this simple graph template to help students conceptualize the relative distance of all of the planets from the sun. The graph is automatically generated as students type in distances. |

Zoo Animals:
|
Designed for kindergarten students, this activity encourages early readers to publish informative reports in a fill-in-the-blank style. Using Microsoft Word, teachers create a customized "form" for students to complete. This allows children to express their comprehension of a subject without being limited by writing ability. |

Dogs:
| First Graders used Kid Pix paint tools to illustrate their knowledge of dog bodies, breeds, and lifestyles. The students recorded their voices as they recited facts related to their illustrations. |

Weather Rhyme:
| After studying weather, students read the weather rhymes (or have the computer read the text to them!) and choose a symbol that represents the appropriate type of weather. Finally, they can type a sentence about weather. |
