Ever wonder how you can find the best websites for classroom use? Have you heard about a new product or piece of software that you thought would be great to use with students? Of course you have, and to help we have started a searchable blog where we collect, categorize and tag these resources for you. If you find something that you like to share with your colleagues drop us a note and we'll add it to the blog.

Dr. Teresa Snyder's Reflection on Instructional Technology and Shen

Dear Colleagues:

There is a bitter sweet feeling as I prepare to take my leave from Shen and move on to Voorheesville. I am excited about the opportunity to lead a District, but I will miss Shenendehowa very much.   I have so enjoyed meeting so many of you and experiencing the energy that is Shen.  As I write this for the final Professional Development newsletter, I want to apprise you of the great work of the District Instructional Technology Integration Committee (DITIC), which led the way in terms of outfitting classrooms with teacher presentation stations.  We got 216 installed this year and we are targeting 68 additional classrooms for next year.

Teresa Snyder

Our original charge of fully operationalizing every classroom within five years took a significant ding with this year’s budget development.  However, the committee remained determined to continue the work and Shen will move forward with the project, even if it takes us six years or more. It is  important to have the means of accessing the world of information out there  for our students.  That said, I am a big believer that technology serves instruction—it is not an end in itself but a means to an end. I urge you to share your great ideas with your colleagues, to pass on knowledge about using the technology to enhance instruction, and to embrace the opportunities that technology can offer to good instruction. I wish you all the best and I will always cherish the three years I have spent among you.

         - Dr. Snyder's Farewell Reflection
         - Reimaging Teacher Stations this Summer

Bottom Bar
This summer IMS will reimage all teacher stations. This process has not been done district-wide in the last 2-3 years. Normally, individual teacher stations are reimaged only when a problem occurs, or by request of the teacher. The new image will include Photostory, Audacity and the latest version of Internet Explorer.

To prepare for reimaging...
Copy all files form the Desktop or C: drive to your F: Drive (anything left on the desktop or C drive will be lost)
Watch the video to the right for exporting Internet Explorer Favorites so they also can be transferred to your reimaged computer.

IMS will load a "multiple teacher image onto High School teacher workstations for 2009-2010, which will cover many subject areas. However, Art, Technology, Music and Business teachers should submit a helpdesk ticket when they know the location of their workstation for 2009-10 and IMS will re-image it with the appropriate software.
