At
the
elementary
level
General
music
All
elementary
students
in
grade
1-5
have
general
music
twice
a
week
for
30
minutes.
This
includes
singing,
playing
rhythm
instruments
and
recorders,
listening
lessons
and
music
reading
skills
development.
Students
also
have
performing
opportunities
through
the
performing
ensembles.
Chorus
and
orchestra
Chorus
and
orchestra
begin
in
grade
4
and
meet
once
a
week
during
the
school
day. Orchestra
students
also
have
a
weekly
,small
group
lesson.
The
chorus
and
orchestra
perform
for
parents
twice
during
the
year (in
addition
to
school
assemblies).
Band
Band
begins
in
grade
5.
Students
also
have
a
weekly
small
group
lesson
and
a
weekly
band
rehearsal.

band
performs
once
in
the

At
the
middle
school
level
Sixth
grade
Sixth-grade
students
have
general
music
instruction
every
day
for
10
weeks. In
addition
to
general
music,
students
may
elect
to
perform
in
chorus,
band
or
orchestra
which
rehearse
every
other
day. All
sixth-grade
ensembles
perform
twice
a
year.
Students
are
also
given
opportunities
to
perform
in
smaller
ensembles
at
events
like
"Respect
Week."
Seventh
grade
Seventh-grade
students
who
do
not
wish
to
select
a
performing
ensemble
may
continue
general
music,
which
meets
every
other
day
throughout the year. The
chorus,
band
and
orchestra
meet
daily.
Eighth
grade
In
grade
8,
the
performing
ensembles
are
the
only
option
for
music
study
in
the
school
day. They
continue
to
meet
daily.
Extra-curricular
In
addition
to
the
school
ensembles,
smaller,
often
select
ensembles
work
with
teachers
at
the
middle
school
before
school. The
Ambassadors
is
a
vocal
select
ensemble
of
students
from
grade
6-8. The
boys'
chorus,
string
ensemble
and
jazz
bands
also
meet
at
that
time. |

At
the
high
school
level
Meeting
the
graduation
requirement
In
the
high
school,
students
must
have
1
unit
of
credit
in
music
or
art
to
graduate.
To
meet
this,
they
may
participate
in
orchestra,
symphonic
band
or
concert
choir.
Students
may
also
choose
a
general
music
option.
This
class
is
called
Music
In
Our
Lives.
Special
performing
groups
Auditioned
groups
like
Wind
Ensemble,
Jazz
Ensemble
and
Choraliers
meet
on
alternate
days
and
receive
.5
unit
of
credit.
Music
sequence
Students
may
also
receive
a
sequence
in
music
by
choosing
Theory
I
and
Theory
II
which
include
the
techniques
for
musical
composition
and
help
students
gain
familiarity
with
Midi
applications.
