This informational seminar is for the “babyboomer” generation.  Over the next several years babyboomers will be exiting the workforce and enjoying a long and fruitful retirement.  This course will discuss the financial transition that will face this generation.  Retirement income that was accumulated over the working years will now be distributed over the course of retirement which can expand 30 years in some cases.  With inflation and tax laws it is important to know your options.  Topics that will be discussed (but not limited to) are:  rolling over your 401k plan into something YOU can control, asset distribution management, required minimum distributions (RMDs), Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs).  This course is strictly confidential and there will be no solicitation of a specific investment.  You can email the instructor at fguiffre@hallidayfinancial.com with questions or for more information.

LONG-TERM CARE FROM A HEALTH CARE PERSPECTIVE

This long-term health care system is very complex and most people don’t understand just how much they don’t know.  The instructor draws on her years of experience as a hospital discharge planner doing nursing home placement, to educate participants on becoming knowledgeable consumers regarding their own long-term health care needs.  Topics to be discussed include an explanation of Medicare and Medicare supplement insurance and the services covered, long-term care insurance and why many people buy more than they actually need and a list of criteria to use when evaluating a plan.  Learn how the nursing home reimbursement system works, the criteria for admission, how home health care needs and services are determined, how these services are paid for and trends in the home health care delivery system affecting the availability of quality help.  It is important to find out now what it is really like to be a patient in the long-term health care system and what steps you can take to ensure your financial and personal independence.

THE “NEW” NEW YORK STATE PARTNERSHIP FOR LONG-TERM CARE         

The class will explain the new program initiatives by New York State to help people retain their assets when they require long-term care at home, assisted living or in a nursing home.  We will discuss the changes in the Partnership and the new “dollar-for-dollar” plans now available.  The Deficit Reduction Act will be discussed in detail as well as the National Partnership initiatives. 

Participants will discover if the Partnership is appropriate for them, learn what language they need to see in a policy to get maximum benefits and a list of criteria to use when evaluating a long-term care advisor.  Also discussed is the claims process of long-term care insurance from experienced care managers in the long-term care industry.  The instructor, Eileen Dunn, of Trinity ElderCare Consulting & Management, LLC,  is a national speaker and presenter on long-term care.
