for each course gr. 6-12
Essential Content
and Competencies describe the specific skills that students
must be able to demonstrate at each grade level within each content
area.
In developing the Essential Content and Competencies,
teams of teachers and administrators turned to state and
national studies for direction. The result is a curriculum
that is connected from grade to grade and avoids
unnecessary overlaps and gaps in the learning sequence.
The ECC are developed and reviewed by Program Planning
Teams. Each core academic area (math, science, social
studies, English) has three Program Planning Teams: one
for grades K-5, one for grades 6-8 and one for grades
9-12.
The special areas, such as art, music, health, technology, FACS,
business, library and physical education each have sequential
development of skills.
The ECC are on a periodic review cycle.
