...assesses student performance
according to district standards (the Essential Content & Competencies and the
Profile of a Shen graduate)
Performance Tasks were developed to assess
whether or not students are able to demonstrate the specific skills outlined in
the Essential Content and Competencies and the broader skills outlined in the
Profile of a Shenendehowa Graduate.
Performance Tasks, developed by teachers for
each grade level and subject area, measure student performance and make
instruction relevant by bringing in real-life issues, problems and major
projects.
The Performance Task require students to use
higher-level thinking skills such as planning, organizing, analyzing,
communicating and producing. These skills go beyond mere memorization of facts
and are more in line with the new more rigorous New York State Standards.
For each Performance Task, teachers identify
criteria upon which a student's performance will be evaluated. This evaluation
tool is called a rubric.
