SUBJECT: BOARD MEMBER TRAINING ON FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT, ACCOUNTABILITY AND FIDUCIARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Board members who were appointed, elected or re-elected for a term that begins on or after July 1, 2005, must complete a minimum of six hours of training on the financial oversight, accountability and fiduciary responsibilities of a school board member within the first year of election, re-election or appointment. The curriculum and provider of this training must be approved by the Commissioner of Education.

Although Board members are only required to take the training once, regardless of how many terms are served, they are encouraged to periodically take courses to maintain and improve their proficiency.

Upon completion of the required training, the Board member must file a certificate of completion with the District Clerk.
