3220 -- Community Relations

SUBJECT: PUBLIC COMMENT AT MEETINGS

All meetings of the Board shall be conducted in public, and the public has the right to attend all such meetings. At its discretion, the Board may invite visitors to its meetings to participate in the Board's discussion of matters on the agenda.

The Board of Education shall set aside time to allow District residents to address the Board at regular business meetings. In addition, public comment, on study topic items may be allowed if designated on the meeting agenda.

In order to ensure the prompt and orderly conduct of the business before the Board, it is the prerogative of the Board President to:

  1. Limit the time allowed to any individual to approximately 2-3 minutes.
  2. Limit the total time available for public comment.
  3. Permit additional public comment or questions during the course of the meeting.
  4. Request the name and address of the resident.

Board members will not address specific comments. Residents are expected to speak in a respectful and courteous manner. Residents may also communicate with the Board via e-mail at boe@shenet.org.

The Board of Education reserves the right to enter into executive session as specified in Policy #1730 -- Executive Sessions.
