Create a
Calendar:
| First graders practice number sequencing skills and reinforce their understanding of days of the week and symbolic references when creating a calendar. These calendars, created in Publisher, can be customized to include special holidays and children's birthdays. [Note: To modify the background elements, use the View menu to select Master Page.] |

Easy Graphs:
| Categorizing and graphing are important skills for first graders. There are many different ways to help students create and understand graphs. This example uses a Microsoft Excel template that can be easily customized. Students count all the pictures of a certain type. Then they use the bucket tool to fill in the graph so it accurately reflects the number and types of pictures categorized. Finally, they can use the graph to answer questions. |

Lost Teeth
Graph:
|
Elementary teachers can use Microsoft Excel in developmentally appropriate ways by focusing on educational objectives rather than application mechanics. Use this teacher-designed template to help students understand how numbers can be displayed and compared as a graph. The "lost teeth" theme can easily be substituted with "books read," "height," "favorite type of apples," or any numeric data. |
