Virtual Field Trips and Collaborative Opportunities

Shen recently acquired two sets of video conferencing equipment that will allow students and teachers to interact with classrooms, museums, zoos and content experts all across the globe. Through "virtual field trips" students can see and ask questions of those experts as if they were actually in the classroom. Several teachers successfully piloted this technology last spring. The video above showcases their experiences.

Several websites offer databases of videoconferencing opportunities appropriate for K-12 classrooms. The Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration and VC Content Providers detail many free and paid programs. Click either logo to access their sites.

Browse the digital catalogues, then contact the Lead Teachers to reserve the equipment and register for a video conferencing session. Some funding is available from the district and through BOCES Arts and Education. so don't miss out!
