After School Programs

It is important for individuals with disabilities to have the opportunity to socialize with their peers and spend time in the community.  In addition, family members oftentimes need time for themselves as well.  Taking a break is called Respite.  Respite can come in a variety of formats:

Recreation Programs:  these programs offer social, recreational, and leisure activities that provide an opportunity to interact with others in the community.  Some providers include:

  • Alternatives in ManKind

  • Capital District Deaf Center

  • Center for the Disabled

  • Babe Ruth Challenger League

  • Clifton Park Recreation Program

  • Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped

  • Empire State Games for Physically Challenged

  • EquAbility

  • Halfmoon Recreational Program

  • Helderberg House

  • Living Resources

  • Malta Recreation

  • Saratoga County ARC

  • Saratoga County Special Olympics

  • Southern Saratoga YMCA

  • WSWHE BOCES

  • Wildwood Programs

Respite Care:  provides in-home care or sites that provide short-term, long-term, or emergency care.  Some providers include:

  • Capital District Deaf Center

  • Catholic Charities

  • Center for the Disabled

  • Family Respite

  • Holmes Dale

  • Living Resources

  • Saratoga County ARC

  • Wildwood Programs

Camps:  several organizations provide day and/or overnight camps in the area that are specially designed for individuals with disabilities.  Some providers include:

  • Center for the Disabled

  • Double “H” Camp Hole In the Woods

  • NYS Easter Seals Day Camp

Residential Habilitation:  provides a specially trained individual to spend quality time with your child.  Activities are based on the consumer’s choice.  Some providers include: 

  • Alternatives in ManKind

  • Camary Statewide

  • Center for the Disabled

  • Living Resources

  • Saratoga County ARC

  • Wildwood Programs

Summer Education:  several area schools offer education during the summer months for those students who are CSE referred.  Some providers include: 

  • Capital Region BOCES

  • Center for the Disabled

  • Wildwood Programs

After School Programs:  these programs are limited, however there are a few that offer recreation after school and during the weeks school is not in session.  Some providers include:
