Services And Placements
Outside
Of The Shenendehowa Central School District
Capital Region BOCES -
The Shenendehowa Central
School District is currently served by Capital Region BOCES (Board
of Cooperative Educational Services). BOCES provides the school
district with several special education services, including special
education classes, itinerant related services, and assistive
technology services.
Students may be placed in
BOCES special education programs if their needs are best met by the
programs and services offered through these programs. Many BOCES
classrooms are located in schools within the Capital District area,
and others are located in the BOCES Center in Colonie. In unique
circumstances, Shenendehowa will cross contract with
Warren/Saratoga/Washington/Hamilton/Essex
(WSWHE) BOCES or Rensselaer/Columbia/Green (Questar) BOCES.
Students who have special
needs that require related services such as visual services,
orientation and mobility training, and behavioral support services
may receive these services at Shenendehowa through BOCES itinerant
service providers.
Approved Private Schools
- Some students have needs
that can best be met in specialized schools that provide services
appropriate for specific disabilities. The CSE may recommend
placement in private schools that have been approved by the New York
State Education Department. These schools include schools for the
deaf, day treatment programs, and residential schools.
