Grading
Grades for Social Studies are based on a point system.
Each homework assignment is worth 2 points. If the assignment is on time, neat, and complete, the student will receive 2 points. If the assignment is left in the student's locker but is handed in after class or if it is not fully complete to the best of the student's ability, the student will receive 1 point. If the assignment is missing, the student will receive 0 points. Three missing homework assignments in the same quarter will result in a warning notice being sent home. If a fourth assignment is missed in that same quarter, the student will receive an academic referral. Since homework is assigned a few times a week, these points really add up!! Each assignment should take about 10-20 minutes to complete.
Graded assignments are completed in class. Some examples are maps, comprehension questions, outlines, and essays. These range in value from 10 to 30 points.
Quizzes and tests range in value from 10 to 50 points. Students are given at least one week notice before each test. Detailed study guides are provided. All quizzes and tests will be sent home to be signed by a parent.
Projects range in value from 25 to 50 points. Most projects are started in school and completed at home.
