MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCES

comment heading graphic

My child attended the Acadia Green/White dance on 3/5. At the end of the dance the students were not allowed to wait in front of the school for their rides. So I had to walk in and pick him up. In the past there was never any problem waiting in front of the entrance. What is the big deal that they wait outside for their ride. If he is old enough to do to a dance by himself  I can trust him to wait for his ride. Please do not tell me that some crazy parent had a problem with this. Of course now all of us have to suffer. Is this a new policy for dances? Just inquiring. Thanks.

It is not a new policy for PTA dances or Student Council dances. We do ask parents to please come in to pick up their children.

Are girls aloud to wear strapless dresses at the eighth grade dance in May?

response heading graphic
Attire should be appropriate for a middle school dance. Dresses should be comfortable for the student to wear without having to worry about inappropriate wardrobe malfunctions.

Do you need to do anything special if you want to bring someone from an upper grade to the gr. 8 dance or can you just buy them a ticket and go? Can an 8th grader bring a 7th grader to the 8th grade dance?

response heading graphic

The only students allowed at the grade 8 dance are grade 8 students from Koda, Gowana or Acadia - no students who are younger or older are allowed to attend and no students from another school district.

Is there a reason the eight grade dance is not a semi-formal?

response heading graphic

Students are encouraged to make it a special event and dress nicely for the grade 8 dance.

Is the dress code for the middle school dances/semi formal the same as the day-to-day dress code at school?

response heading graphic
Yes. The code says that students will ensure that underwear is completely covered with outer clothing. All clothing shall be fastened appropriately. Students shall not wear garments that are revealing or see-through (including those that expose one's midriff or otherwise potentially expose private parts of the body such as tube tops and halters).

Is it true that the middle schools will not hold anymore tri-building dances?

response heading graphic

In an effort to keep these type of activities safe for all who participate,  the middle schools decided to try and reduce the number of tri-building dances (except for the gr. 8 tri-building dance in the Spring). Having individual school-based dances provides an environment where most, if not all, of the students know who the staff is and this helps a great deal in providing more control particularly when you consider that 300-400 students attend most dances. The middle school administration will continue to discuss this issue as it is also recognized that tri-building activities provide students with an opportunity to interact with students of the same grade level from the other two middle schools.
