Heard it through the grapevine: a place for you to nip those rumors about the district in the bud...

FUNDRAISING

What is the policy for transparency for the various booster club expenditures? All these clubs put pressure on athletes and parents alike (seriously IT IS PRESSURE-no hiding behind the its voluntary thing. We know better) to raise funds yet there is such a secret about where the cash goes. If you have the nerve to ask its like you made a huge social gaff. Non profits have a reporting-does Shen have any requirements or oversight in place?

This is a very valid point. We have been discussing greater transparency to build and preserve the trust of parents, especially knowing that we will have a greater reliance on such vehicles to support aspects of all our extra curricular programs.

While I have no doubt the school district is well intentioned, as there are many worthwhile charities in the area, I don't believe non-school related fundraisers should be promoted by individual schools. Is there a school board policy on this matter?

We have seen a huge increase in the number of people and organizations wanting to use district resources to communicate various causes and events. Because of this, we have been reviewing and tightening up our communications policies this past month.

My child came home with Entertainment books to sell to raise money for "Student Activities". Just curious what they money goes for? Thanks!

That is a PTA fundraiser and it goes to fund PTA activities within the school.

My question went unanswered last year - what is the district's fundraising policy?

response heading graphic

You can view all of the district's policies on line by going to the Board of Education page. For that particular policy, click here 7450 .

What percent of the money raised by the fall fundraiser going on now in the elementary schools actually goes towards the educational programs, field trips, etc.?

response heading graphic

Fundraisers are run by the PTA. You should contact your PTA president to get that information.

Just yesterday I received promotional materials from the Albany River Rats via both of my elementary school children. Can you please clarify the policy regarding the distribution of information in school?

Unless it was a fundraiser or an activity night sponsored by the PTA, a school club, student government, etc. it should not have gone home in your child's back pack. If it was none of those, you should contact your child's principal.
