Here we are once again approaching the Thanksgiving holiday. A holiday that many school districts observe starting on Wednesday, due to so many traveling. Wouldn’t it make sense for the Superintendent to inquire with the districts that know how to work it in their school calendars, so that Shen students, families and employees could also have that time for travel and or prepping to welcome families from near and far to enjoy the holiday feast? This would be especially helpful for the blended families who have children living with a parent who is in a district with the day before off. Think of the people in your Attendance offices district wide who would thank you….if you know what I mean

A.  The school calendar is largely regulated by collective bargaining agreements. For instance, some districts have a superintendent’s conference day before Labor Day. Some districts do not observe the Jewish holiday. Some districts have shortened a February Break.
