SCHOLARSHIPS Applications requiring an official high school transcript ($1.00 Fee) or a counselor’s signature must be submitted to the Counseling Center 15 school days prior to postmark deadline.  Official transcripts must be mailed directly from our office to the college or scholarship.  See Mrs. Haswell for information or application.

 

Most colleges offer scholarships available when students apply to their school.  Please contact prospective colleges to inquire about scholarship opportunities.

 

There is a binder with copies of the available scholarships located in the Counseling Center.

 

AFC – is promoting the $50k Giveaway on behalf of Brazos Higher Education Service Corp., Inc.  The $50k Giveaway will award two (2) $5,000 scholarships and sixteen (16) $2,500 scholarships to students enrolled in college for the first time in the fall of 2008.  Students complete a simple on-line entry form at www.afclending.com/50k.

 

AT&T & The Better Business Bureau “Science and Technology Scholarship – recognizes college bound seniors.  Seniors must currently attend a High School located in the 50 county Upstate NY service territory and have a commitment to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree at an accredited college or university.  Three students will be chosen, 1st place $3,000, 2nd place $2,000 and 3rd place $1,000.  Completed applications are due back to the Counseling Center by 12/20/07.

 

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship offers a $2,000 college scholarship to a high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace.  Applications are available in the Counseling Center and must be completed and returned by 2/01/08.

 

Better Business Bureau “Student of Integrity Award” recognizes a college bound student in their senior year who exemplifies the Bureau’s standards of ethics and integrity (the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation).  Two students, who reside in the Upstate NY area that plan to attend an accredited college or university, will qualify to receive a $1,000 scholarship.  Deadline for completed scholarship to the Counseling Center is 1/2/08.

 

Burger King Scholars Program is offering a $1,000 scholarship to all eligible high school seniors.  Easy online application process began on October 15th.   To apply, log on to www.bk.com/scholars.

 

Cargill Community Scholarship Program – Senior eligibility is based on academic achievement, extracurricular and other activities.  Must plan to enroll in a 2 or 4 year college and live in the Cargill Community.  Program guidelines and applications are available on line at: www.cargill.com  More information is available at the Counseling Center.

 

Clifton Park Soccer Club/Rose & Kiernan, Inc. is offering (4) $1,000 scholarships to (2) boy and (2) Girl seniors of Shenendehowa.  They must be registered players with Clifton Park Club for the 2007-2008 soccer season and will be continuing their formal education in the fall of 2008.  Deadline for completed scholarship applications to the Counseling Center is 12/18/07.

 

Davidson Institute’s offers scholarships to students under 18 years of age as of 10/1/08.  Individuals born on or before 10/1/90 are not eligible.  For more information, visit www.ditdservices.org .

 

Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship Fund  -  Scholarships of $6,500, $5,500 and $4,500 will be awarded to three deserving women students planning to major in Physical Education Teacher Education.  Awards will be made on the basis of character, academic achievement, physical education competence, participation in athletics, qualities of leadership and financial need.  Information is available  in the Counseling Center.  Completed application needs to be returned to your area DDMS Chairperson by March 1, 2008.

 

Elks National Foundation – “2008 Most Valuable Student Scholarship Competition” is open to all New York State High School seniors.  It will offer scholarships ranging in amounts from $1,000-$15,000 per year for 4 years.  Any high school senior who is a US citizen is eligible to apply; the student need not be the child of a member of the Elks.  The Elks Foundation also offers other  scholarships.  Applications are available in the Counseling Center and must be returned completed by 12/18/07.

 

 

 

 

 

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship  a $40,000 scholarship is available to seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and meet the following criteria:  Graduate in Spring of 2008, attend a 4 year college or university (Private or Public, within the 50 States), own and operate a genuine business, non-profits eligible and have at least one employee, even if only part time.  Visit their web site at www.mckelveyfoundation.org (click on Entrepreneurial Scholarship) to apply.  Deadline to apply is 01/15/08.

 

2008 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award is open to high school seniors entering their freshman year at an accredited, non profit tow or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute.  The applicant should demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative such as  participation in organization such as DECA,FBLA, Junior Achievement and The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship.  On-line applications available at www.NFIB.com beginning 11/12/07.  More information is available in the Counseling Center.

 

NYS Scholarship for Academic Excellence will award (4) $1500 and (19) $500 renewable scholarships to Shenendehowa graduating seniors who attend college in New York State.  These scholarships will be awarded pending the appropriation of funds during the 2007 session of the State Legislature.  Nominees must have been a NYS resident for one year prior to September 30, 2007.  Interested students must give their name to Mrs. Haswell in the Counseling Center before November 26th.

 

NYSUT RC 10 is offering a new $500 scholarship to a student enrolled in a public school in Saratoga County who wants a career in education.  Applications are available in the Counseling Center and are due back  by 2/29/08.

 

Phi Delta Kappa International offers a scholarship for seniors intending to major in education.  More information is available in the Counseling Center.  Deadline is 01/11/08.

 

Price Chopper Associate Scholarship program.  Eligible applicants must be a part-time associate of Price Chopper and enrolled in High School or College on a full-time basis or part-time basis.  On line applications are available at www.priceshipper.com.  More information is available in the Counseling Center.

 

TCT Federal Credit Union is participating in a statewide scholarship program this year offering college-bound seniors who are members of TCT Federal Credit Union.  More information is available at the Counseling Center.  Deadline January 25, 2008.

 

Wal-Mart Stores is offering the 2008 Sam Walton  Community Scholarship that will be available on-line through January 14, 2008 at www.walmartfoundation.org .  The deadline for entry is a postmark of 01/14/08 and no exceptions are made for late entries.

 

 

 

WORKSHOPS, EDUCATION, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES & CONTEST:

 

 

28th Annual High School Writing Contest – Prizes are 1st - $100, 2nd $50 and 3rd - $25.  More information is available in the Counseling Center.

 

Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Inc. is offering the annual Irish History Writing Contest.  Students in grades 6-12 are eligible.

Sons of the American Revolution are offering the George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest.  Students in grades 10 -12 are eligible.  More information is available in the Counseling Center.

 

University of Delaware offers summer college for current Sophomores and Juniors July 12- August 16, 2008.  A Summer College information session date will be known by late January.  Check with your guidance counselor for more information.
