Hello! We want to welcome you, let you know who we are and give you an overview of the library media center policy. Feel free to stop by to discuss library/computer lab project ideas and/or materials you may want purchased to support the curriculum.
Librarian
Teresa Malizia (x62500)
A copy of the library schedule is located in the Teacher Planning Area (small desk to the right of main Library entrance). However, all teachers are required to meet with a librarian before writing down times so that we can collaboratively design a lesson that both meets your curricular goals and makes the best use of the library’s print and electronic resources. See the back of this sheet for more information on the library policy.

SHENENDEHOWA HIGH SCHOOL WEST
LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER POLICY
The High School Library Media Center is a dynamic, open access learning environment designed for quiet reading, research, homework or study. We ask your cooperation with the following procedures to insure optimal opportunities for students and staff. These procedures also apply to the computer lab.
1. Productive use of the library requires ongoing collaboration between teachers and librarian. Collaborative planning before a visit is essential to be able to accommodate program needs, performance tasks, and requests and insure the best instructional support.
2. When bringing classes to the library or sending in groups of students to use the library, teachers need to sign up with the librarian well in advance. Teachers are expected to remain with their students while in the library for a scheduled class. It is generally not acceptable to use the library as a plan for a substitute. Students should not be sent to the library because they are a behavioral problem or have no work to do.
3. When issuing your students pre-signed passes, please be mindful that use of the library and library computers by whole classes or groups (even 1 or 2 students) requires reservation/sign up with the librarian. Demand for these resources is great. You can always check the library and computer lab daily posted schedule.
4. The library accommodates two formal classes at one time – the library main floor and library classroom. Classes may also be scheduled in computer lab 62.
5. When teachers send students out of class to access library computers or resources, they need to insure that students present a pass to a library staff member for signature upon arrival and departure.
