Today is an "A"  Day

A reminder to all students: There will be NO late buses available on Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons this school year. Students are asked to get on their PM bus immediately following dismissal on these days or be sure to make other arrangements for transportation on these days.

THE MUSIC MAN - Rehearsals are underway for the Spring musical production of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man. Performances are Thursday-Saturday, March 15, 16, & 17th at 7:30 p.m. in the HSE auditorium. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased, starting February 3rd, after school at rehearsal. SFA Senate Dodge Ball Tournament- The SFA Senate will be holding the annual Dodge Ball Tournament on Friday, March 2nd from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Packets for teams to sign up are available in the Main Office. Teams will consist of 9 boys, 9 girls and 2 faculty members. The sign up packets need to be turned in by Friday, February 17th to Mr. Salls. Only 40 teams are being accepted, and spots in the tournament will fill up fast, so if you would like to make a team make sure to sign up soon..

Buy a carnation for your Valentine. Carnations cost  $2.00 each or purchase 3 for $5.00. Carnations will be delivered on Valentines Day. Buyers will be able to attach a special handwritten message to their carnations. Pre- order Tuesday, February 7th to Friday, February 10th during all lunch periods.

Respect Festival T-Shirts are in and are being sold behind the cafeteria. They are $10.00.  Get yours before the "big" event!

Shen apparel has arrived! Pick up your orders outside the Main Cafeteria.

Club News

There is a mandatory meeting TODAT after school. (Feb. 10th) for ALL students who will be performing during Respect Day

Attention Dancers!- Shen Dance Team tryouts will be held Monday, February 27th through Thursday March 1st. All days are mandatory. See Miss Buono in the North Workroom for more information or visit the Shen Dance team website. .

NHS- the bus bringing the NHS workers to the WIZARDS Basketball game will leave the Satellite cafeteria entrance or HSE at 4:45 pm

International Service Club- Starting next week the International Service Club will be selling strips of paper for .50 cents each to add to a paper chain for each grade. When you buy a piece of the chain you will also be added to a raffle that will be drawn depending on which grade has the largest chain. So come support a good cause and see if you can win. Sold during all lunch periods behind the cafeteria.

Photo Club- meets Thursdays at HSE. We will meet after school in Room 116 HSE. Please bring your cameras and experiment with studio lighting.

Chess Club- will not meet this Thursday, Jan 19th. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 1st.

Spanish Club- is super cool! so come on Thursdays after school in room 226 of HSE. All are welcome to attend! Come for snacks and a super fun time!

Latin Club- meets every Tuesday and Thursday in Room 228 of HSE

German Club- congratulations to those students who participated in the National German Exam. In this challenging competition, 18 students won either gold, silver or bronze medals. Gold medal winners were Charles Chen, Ann Foo, Francesca Hummler, Mandy Kettell, Collin Larkin and Bradley Malmberg.   Bronze medal winners were- James "Blaybear", Sean Cho, Kevin Cosgrove, Andrew Rosario, Anna Siddiqui and Adam Snyder. Our silver and gold medalist will be announced tomorrow.

Ping Pong- Shen's famous Ping Pong Club will meet in the back hallway Tuesdays at 3:00 pm. Remember to bring your own paddle and ping pong balls. 1.00 dollar due from each member.

HSE Art Club- will meet Tuesdays in Room 113 from 2:50 pm to 3:50 pm. All are welcome! Enjoy the Open Studio opportunity. Pretzels will be served!

Red Cross Club - meets Tuesdays in room 220 of HSE. New members are always welcome.

Prayer Club- for all students interested in becoming members of the Shen Prayer Club, join us Friday mornings in room 161 at 7:20 am of HSE..

Anime Club- We will meet in the Little theater this week. Please bring some Anime you would like to watch! Do you love Japanese animation? Coz-Play? How about making great friends who love to laugh, eat Pocky and watch Full Metal Alchemist? Then come to Anime Club on Tuesdays in the HSE Little Theater. All are welcome especially new members

Creative Writing Club - meets Thursdays in HSW.

SADD Club- SADD Club meets Tuesdays, at 3:00 pm in High School West Room 42. The Club is open to all students in grades 9-12. New members and guests are always welcome. Please meet in the cafeteria first.

Broadcasting Club- are you interested in interviewing, video editing, cameras and news? Join the Shen Broadcasting Club! Meetings are at 3:00 pm every Tuesday, see Mr. Salls for details in Room 130.

Fruits of Our Labor Club- We will meet Thursday in Room 127 of High School East. Come and join us. Everyone is welcome to attend.

SCARCE Club- Students Concerned About "R" Crippled Environment is looking for members. Help make HSE more sustainable. They meet on Tuesdays after school in HSE at 3:00 pm in room 127. Students are involved in activities that help our school reduce, reuse and recycle. We hope to reduce our carbon footprint. New!!! The can crusher has been installed!

Class of 2012- Seniors

Attention Seniors- Dollars for Scholars has added an additional Scholarship, the TWP Creative Excellence Award in the amount of $500.00. Students must provide and artistic portfolio of their chosen creative outlet such as photography, video, painting/drawing, or Graphic Design. More information is available in the Counseling Center.

Attention Seniors- Schenectady Community College is offering an on site instant admission day at Shenendehowa.  SCCC will meet with students in the Counseling Center, waive any application fee and let students know on the spot if they are accepted.  Any senior interested in this opportunity should see Mrs. Flynn in the Counseling Center by Friday, February 10th.

All students taking AP Exams- payment for the exams are due by Monday, February 13th.  Please bring payment to Mrs. G in the Main Office as soon as possible.

Attention Seniors- You may now check your senior portrait for the yearbook in the Library. Fill out a correction form if there is a spelling mistake or any other error.

Scholarships If you receive (AND ARE ACCEPTING) an academic or athletic scholarship, please submit a copy of your award letter to Mrs. Butera in the Counseling Center. These awards will be acknowledged in the graduation program. Seniors should pick up the Counseling Center Newsletters in homeroom, or may view them on Shen’s website, and may periodically check the Scholarship Notebook in the Counseling Center for national and local scholarship program information.

Class of 2013 Juniors

Spring College Fair In the spring, the Counseling Center will be hosting a Spring College Fair for Juniors. Students will have the opportunity to meet with college admission representatives to ask questions and explore future college opportunities. Information regarding the college fair date and sign-up procedures will be provided to juniors during homeroom.

Attention Junior Boys- Information is now available in the Counseling Center on the American Legion Boys State Program.  Boys State is a week long opportunity where participants learn a better understanding of the Legislative process in New York State.  Activities include Legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations and drills and physical training led by U.S. Marines.  More information is available in the Counseling Center. The deadline to apply is February 17th

Class of 2014 - Sophomores

Sophomore Class Council will be selling flowers for Valentines Day. Order flowers for a friend!  Sales start around Valentines Day. More information to follow.

VOTEC Trip - students interested in attending Votec next year have an opportunity to tour their facilities on Wednesday, February 15th.  If you are interested in participating in this tour, pick up a permission slip in the Counseling Center as soon as possible.  Completed permission forms must be returned to the Counseling Center by Friday, February 10th

Sophomore Class Council- meet Thursdays, after school in Room 121. Did you miss this meeting or have a Question? See Ms. Pfaffenbach or Mrs. Connelly in the North Workroom.

Class of 2015 - Freshman

Valentine Fundraiser!- Do you want to spread love this Valentine season by sending something sweet to your friends or to someone special?  Then you are in luck!  this week during all lunch periods, Class Council will be selling Fun Dip Valentines, Sweetheart Valentines, Jolly Lolly's and SpongeBob Sweethearts for only 50 cents outside the cafeteria. And the best part is they will be delivered by Cupid himself!

Respect Club-  Needs you! Have you made a YouTube video worthy of showing off?  Respect Day is your chance to shine!  If you would like to submit a video to be shown stop by room 43 to see Ms. Hulme or email her a link to your video. hulmsara@shenet.org

Snowman being built at HSW- help us build a snowman by performing random acts of kindness. Show any act of kindness and receive a snowball. Snowballs will be hung up to make a snowman. For each snowman you receive you will be entered in a raffle for a gift card. Starts today and runs through February 10th.

HSW Library Book Club Discussions- the March Library Book Club Discussions will be held on Thursday, March 8th and Thursday, March 22nd. We are always looking for more students and staff to participate. Are we missing a great book in our West library? Please come and share it with the group.

HOMEWORK CLUB- attention all 9th grade students! Homework Club will run every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Late buses run on these days. Need help? Please stop in and get the extra help you may need. This is a great opportunity to keep from falling behind. There will be many teachers and students to help you. All 9th grade students are welcome to attend.

ShenPen Newspaper-  The Shen Pen will meet after school in the HSE room 130 every Tuesday. Refreshments will be available.

Respect Club High School West- Enjoy music? Enjoy Art? Enjoy helping others and making a difference? See Ms. Hulme in room 43 if you have any questions.

After School Intramurals- have begun! They will begin at 2:45 pm and end at 3:30pm. Students will be able to choose from basketball or other fitness like activities. Please come prepared to change into PE clothes in order to participate. A reminder, late buses are available on Tuesday and Thursday. You must have your own transportation on other days.

Sports

Spring Athletes- Clearances and recertification's for spring sports will occur between Monday, February 6th and Monday, March 5th.  Bring either your Health History and Physical form or your Recertification form. along with Medication forms if needed, to your school nurse during a free period in this time frame.  There will be NO school-provided sport physicals for spring sports.  If you did not attend a summer sports physical date, you will need to provide a current physical or have a valid one on file.  Physicals are good fro one year, recertification is required at the start of every season.  Please don't forget that every winter athlete will need to recertify PRIOR to March 5th to be eligible for a spring sport, even if still competing in the post season.

Girls Track and Field- there will be an informational meeting for all girls interested in going out for the track team on Thursday, February 16th at 2:45 pm in the back of the Main Cafeteria in HSE.

Freshman Baseball- all boys interested in playing Freshman Baseball, there will be an interest meeting on Tuesday, February 28th at 3:00 pm in the High School West Gym.  All information regarding tryouts will be handed out at this meeting. Bus passes will be provided.

Varsity Boys Lacrosse- for all candidates interested in Varsity Lacrosse there will be a pre-season meeting on Thursday, February 16th at 7:15 am in the High School East Little Theater.  This will be the only pre-season meeting of the Boys Varsity team.  If you cannot attend, please contact Coach Holohan.

Girls JV and Varsity Lacrosse- there will be a pre-season Girls Lacrosse meeting for all girls interested in trying out for JV and Varsity Lacrosse on Thursday, February 16th from 2:50 pm to 3:30 pm in the Satellite Cafeteria at HSE.

Softball Players- Softball Open Gym will begin on Wednesday, December 7th and continue each Wednesday throughout the winter. The program will be held in the HSE Main Gym from 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm. Any student in grades 9-12, who has an interest in softball is invited to attend.

Basketball Intramurals have begun- B- days from 7:00 to 7:40 am (mornings) Questions?  Ask Coach Galarneau
